About the NZREX Course & Workshop

What is Covered in the NZREX Demo/Workshop

Our NZREX Preparation Course will help prepare all the candidates to have knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to perform well in NZREX Examinations & acquire very high scores.

The Demo/Workshop for the NZREX is a full day workshop 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.,  The Demo class cum Workshop will cover the details of the Course Content . Will also discuss the details of the NZREX Examination format, and what ICME will do to train you and help you prepare for the PLAB Examination.

 

About the NZREX

The NZREX (New Zealand Registration Examination) is a mandatory practical exam for International Medical Graduates to practice in New Zealand. It evaluates clinical, communication, and cultural safety skills. Candidates must hold an acceptable primary medical degree, prove English proficiency, and pass a recognized licensing exam (like USMLE, PLAB, or AMC) within the last 5 years. 
Exam Format & Structure
The NZREX Clinical exam is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) administered in Auckland. 
  • Duration: Typically 3 hours.
  • Stations: 12 active OSCE stations (plus 2–4 rest stations, depending on the cohort).
  • Time per Station: 12 minutes per station (usually 2 minutes to read the prompt and 10 minutes performing the task).
  • Assessment Scope: You will be evaluated on history-taking, focused physical examinations, clinical reasoning, shared decision-making, and patient education.

New Zealand Medical Council Eligibility Requirements

 
Before applying to sit the NZREX Clinical, you must fulfill these prerequisites:
  • Hold an acceptable primary medical qualification listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Pass one of the following screening exams within 5 years: PLAB Part 1, USMLE Step 1 & 2, AMC Part 1, or MCCQE Part 1.
  • Meet the English language requirement (IELTS minimum 7.5 overall with 7.0 in each band, or OET minimum B in all four components).
Fees & Results
  • Total Cost: Around NZD $5,531, which includes a non-refundable application fee (approx. NZD $817) and an examination fee (approx. NZD $4,713).
  • Passing Score: 60%. Results are generally emailed to candidates within 10 working days of the exam. 
Next Steps After Passing
Upon successfully passing the NZREX Clinical, you must secure a Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) role or House Officer position at an accredited training provider in New Zealand before you can apply for provisional general registration.
